Floor coating, basic and maintenance cleaning on ESD floor coverings with Kiehl products

Electrostatic dissipative floor coverings (ESD floor coverings) are used in sensitive areas where protection against electrostatic discharge is essential - for example in electronics production, server rooms or laboratories. Professional care and cleaning is necessary to maintain the functionality and appearance of these special floor coverings. Basic cleaning and floor coating on ESD floor coverings

In contrast to conventional resilient floor coverings, ESD floor coverings must never be coated with normal polymer dispersions that are not explicitly intended for this purpose, as these can impair the electrical conductivity. However, there are special care products that are ESD-compatible.

Thermodur-ESD is a heavy-duty care emulsion with conductive components. It is suitable for conductive floor coverings and can be used to improve the appearance and protective layer without negatively affecting the ESD properties. On the contrary, the conductivity increases after a second or third application.

To prepare the floor, start with a thorough and professional basic cleaning using a suitable basic cleaner such as Kiehl Copex or Kiehl Veroclean. Then allow the floor to dry completely. Then apply 2-3 coats of Kiehl Thermodur-ESD evenly with a flat mop. Please note that each coat needs about 60 minutes to dry completely.

Maintenance cleaning on ESD floor coverings

Daily cleaning should not only ensure cleanliness and hygiene, but also maintain the conductivity of the floor. The following Kiehl products are particularly suitable for this purpose: Econa concentrate, a neutral maintenance cleaner that is suitable for dissipative floors, and Procur concentrate, a high-performance wipe care with DIN 18032 that is gentle on materials and ESD-compatible.

For manual cleaning, add 25 ml to 8 litres of water and use a double bucket or a mop system. For machine cleaning, use a scrubber-dryer with an appropriate dosage of approx. 0.25 – 0.5 % depending on the degree of soiling. It is important not to use any products containing wax or highly alkaline cleaners, as these could impair the ESD function.

Care and control instructions

It is recommended to regularly check the discharge capacity in accordance with DIN EN 61340, especially after the use of care products and cleaning agents. Kiehl will draw up an individual cleaning plan to document the cleaning intervals and the agents used. It is important to pay attention to the manufacturer’s approvals for the floor covering so as not to jeopardise warranty claims.
