The Swiss professional association SEPAWA and ZHAW are joining forces: a new Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) specifically closes the continuing education gap for professionals in detergents, cosmetics and perfumery, with a strong practical focus, laboratory work and industry insights. The first course started in February 2026.
The CAS “Detergents & Cosmetics” marks the launch of an industry-driven continuing education programme in Switzerland that bridges the gap between scientific depth and industrial practice. The successful launch with laboratory units in Sion and further blocks in Wädenswil shows that a programme is emerging that takes the needs of the industry seriously and builds competencies where innovation, safety and regulation converge.
The programme originated from successful SEPAWA summer schools and the desire to establish a permanent, practical continuing education programme for the DACH region. In addition to the ZHAW, the SWISS SCC and the HES-SO are also involved in its development. This setup systematically combines industry and university perspectives.
Instead of pure theory, application and laboratory work dominate. The ZHAW emphasises extensive practical exercises, excursions to leading companies and a didactic concept that ranges from lectures and case studies to individual projects. In terms of content, the CAS covers everything from formulation and production technology to sensor technology and analytics to regulatory affairs and sustainability, including topics such as REACH, IFRA standards, the impact of the EU Green Deal and AI-supported tools in product development.
The CAS is designed to be completed alongside work, comprises 12 ECTS credits, involves around 14 days of attendance plus flexible self-study, and lasts just under 12 months. The ZHAW quotes a fee of CHF 8,940 for the entire course or CHF 2,980 per module. In addition, the programme will be offered alternately in German (2026) and English (2027) in order to include French-speaking Switzerland and international professionals.
The CAS is particularly relevant for professionals working in hygiene, quality assurance, regulatory affairs or development: In addition to occupational hygiene and product safety, the programme covers raw materials, packaging, environmental compatibility and toxicological issues – key topics for developing safe, effective and sustainable home and personal care products. personal care products.
SEPAWA Switzerland actively supports the promotion of the programme. In addition, its proximity to the SEPAWA specialist groups and the annual SEPAWA Congress offers additional networking potential.
