Wetrok celebrates 20 years of the foam method: an idea that has transformed cleaning

Around 20 years ago, we at Wetrok asked ourselves a fundamental question: How can we design a cleaning product that makes it safer, more economical and more pleasant to use?

The situation was as follows: cleaning products were often sprayed onto the cleaning cloth. This creates a fine mist, known as aerosols, which disperse into the air and can be inhaled. Depending on the product, these aerosols can be harmful to health.

For people who clean every day, this is no small matter. So we looked for a better solution.

The solution to this challenge was the foaming method.

From concept to practical application

The idea behind it is simple and effective: instead of spraying cleaning products, they are foamed up. To ensure the method works reliably in everyday use, Wetrok developed a suitable application solution. In 2006, we introduced special dispensers with foaming attachments – initially for the cleaning products Calexan, Caledor, Reocid and Alcosal.

The bottles are clearly labelled to ensure safe use. Markings indicate the correct fill levels for water and the product, making it easier to prepare the cleaning solution correctly. In addition, important information such as the pH value and hazard symbols is already tailored to the specific concentration required for use. This labelling applies to all Wetrok dispensers – not just the foam dispensers.

It is particularly practical to use: instead of a trigger spray head, you simply squeeze the bottle. The cap serves several purposes at once: it acts as a foam dispenser, as a cap for everyday use, and also as an opening for refilling.

The design is also specifically tailored to everyday working life. The bottle is compact and space-saving, for example compared to traditional jugs. Furthermore, the foaming nozzle is significantly slimmer than a conventional trigger spray head, making it less bulky to use and store.

And so a simple idea became a practical method for everyday use.

Why foam works so well:
When sprayed, the cleaning agent is atomised into fine droplets. Some of this disperses into the air as an aerosol. When foaming, however, the cleaning agent is not atomised into fine droplets but is applied directly to the cleaning cloth.

This brings several benefits in day-to-day work:

  • significantly fewer aerosols in the air we breathe
  • controlled and economical dosing
  • the cleaning cloth is not unnecessarily soaked
  • more ergonomic and comfortable working

For cleaning teams, this means greater control, greater convenience and more efficient processes.

A tried-and-tested method

  • Today, the foam method has become indispensable in many areas of cleaning. Whether in bathrooms, kitchens or when cleaning water-resistant surfaces, the foam enables thorough and economical cleaning.
  • Wetrok recognised the benefits of this method early on and has consistently incorporated it into professional cleaning. In routine cleaning, trigger-spraying is no longer used; instead, foaming is the method of choice.
  • This is typical of Wetrok: the commitment to questioning existing solutions and working together to develop better approaches. The focus is always on the big picture. After all, a good method only works optimally when cleaning products, equipment and consumables work together seamlessly.

A clever way to fold a towel for better hygiene

The correct use of the cleaning cloth is also key to the foaming method. Wetrok recommends a simple yet effective folding technique, which we have further refined.

Folding it twice creates a handy cloth with eight usable sides. After each surface, the cloth is folded again so that a clean side is always used. This means that a single cloth can be used to clean several surfaces hygienically.

This method improves hygiene whilst increasing the cleaning coverage of a cloth.

20 years of experience and still going strong

When spraying, the foam method has been a staple for cleaning teams in their day-to-day work for two decades. Its strength lies, to this day, in the combination of intuitive use, high cleaning performance and improved safety at work.

It demonstrates how practical innovation comes about: through close observation, an understanding of the day-to-day realities of cleaning, and solutions that address exactly where they are needed most.

“Wetrok recognised the benefits of this method early on and has consistently incorporated it into professional cleaning. In routine cleaning, we no longer use trigger spray bottles; instead, we use foam.”
