Who exactly is Floor Concept?

When we talk about hygiene in buildings, the floor – as the largest surface area in any room – is naturally part of the picture. But who actually supplies the right systems for floor design, floor maintenance and floor hygiene? One such company is Floor Concept.

Swiss flooring specialists with a focus on hygiene

Floor Concept is a company operating throughout Switzerland, based in Sursee (LU), which is entirely dedicated to flooring. Not just installation, but above all long-term maintenance and professional care. The company was founded over 20 years ago by Guido Ebneter and Paul Bleuler. Since early 2023, it has been part of Floor Innovation Group AG, alongside other specialists such as Siltex AG, Naturo Flooring AG, Jakob Brauchli AG and Terr’Arte AG.

“We protect your floors” is the company’s slogan, and it sums up exactly what Floor Concept does: the company supports you throughout the entire life cycle of a floor. From choosing the right flooring to cleaning and refurbishment when the floor has seen better days.

What does Floor Concept offer?

At the heart of the service is the ‘Floor Protect’ concept, a systematic approach to maintaining the value of floor coverings. The service includes on-site assessments, recommendations on products and methods, cost-benefit analyses, the provision of professional installers, as well as cleaning plans and staff training.

The company’s product range includes branded products, such as cleaning and care products from Dr. Schutz, Rotowash all-purpose cleaning machines, Project Floors designer floor coverings, aluminium and textile dirt-trapping systems, varnishes and oils from Eukula, furniture glides from Scratchnomore and ECO FLOW, a seamless cast floor based on cork and linseed oil.

Products and systems relevant to hygiene

As the largest single surface area in hospitals, care homes and doctors’ surgeries, the floor requires specific solutions in terms of flooring, sealing and cleaning. Floor Concept offers several approaches in this regard:

VIROBAC: Killing germs with light

Since 2026, Floor Concept has been marketing Dr. Schutz’s VIROBAC coating on the Swiss market. The principle behind it: a photocatalyst is embedded in the floor coating, which is activated by normal visible light. This transfers energy to the surrounding oxygen, producing what is known as singlet oxygen. This reactive oxygen destroys the cell walls of germs through oxidation, killing them permanently.

In practice, this means a significant reduction in bacteria directly on the floor surface, which can complement regular disinfection. The coating is suitable for use on resilient floor coverings, concrete floors and parquet flooring, and is designed for use in hospitals, care homes and doctors’ surgeries.

Floor renovation: refurbish rather than replace

You don’t always need a new floor. With the floor remake system from Dr. Schutz, worn floors can be professionally refurbished instead of being completely replaced. Thanks to UV technology, the PU sealant cures in seconds. This means the rooms can be used again quickly. There are also significant environmental benefits to renovation: the PU sealant used, PU NEO, is completely solvent- and isocyanate-free, certified with the Blue Angel label and has very low emissions (EC 1 R). According to a comparative study by the Kiwa Institute, renovation with floor remake saves up to 98% in CO₂ emissions compared to laying a new floor.

Particularly relevant from a hygiene perspective: the hermetic sealing of the joints prevents the build-up of dirt and bacteria right from the start. According to the manufacturer, over 50 million square metres of flooring worldwide have already been refurbished using this system. It is also used in numerous hospitals and care homes in Switzerland. For operating theatres, there are also special sealing systems that restore the floor’s conductivity whilst being resistant to staining substances.

ESD flooring: Not just for industrial use

Electrostatic discharges can be just as problematic in operating theatres or laboratories as they are in cleanrooms in the semiconductor industry. That is why the Floor Concept range also includes ESD flooring. In collaboration with Safestatics and Gerfloor, specialist seminars are also held regularly for ESD managers and infrastructure managers.

Dirt trap: Hygiene starts at the door

By reducing the amount of dirt brought in at the building entrance, you can minimise the effort required for routine cleaning and reduce the spread of germs inside. Our range includes professional aluminium dirt-trapping mats and customisable textile logo mats.

Training and knowledge transfer

In addition to its retail activities, Floor Concept actively shares its expertise. Courses and seminars are held regularly at the centre of excellence in Sursee, the Floor Innovation Academy. For example, the company trains caretakers on behalf of professional associations such as the Aargau Caretakers’ Association and provides further training for cleaning specialists. The specialist module ‘Maintaining the Value of Floor Coverings’ is also actively used for training and further education within the Swiss Floor Association.

Overall, Floor Concept positions itself as a provider that combines floor design, floor maintenance and hygiene protection. We are delighted to welcome Floor Concept as a partner of Hygieneforum.ch!
