He has continued to work for the city hospital on a project-related basis since September 2023. Gerhard Eich was President of the Swiss Society for Hospital Hygiene (SGSH) from 2009 to 2014. He was previously Head of Hospital Hygiene at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen (KSSG) from 2002 to 2006.
